COMMUNIST PARTY OF SACRAMENTO
Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics
People over Power • Community over Division • Love over Hate
Purpose: We seek to build the society we wish to create. Members, officers, volunteers, and participants are expected to act with democracy, compassion, honesty, humility, and respect for the inherent dignity of every person.
Respect and Belonging: Treat all people with dignity regardless of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion or nonreligion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, immigration status, income, housing status, or political history. Harassment, bullying, threats, slurs, stalking, intimidation, and demeaning conduct are prohibited.
Democratic Conduct: Listen in good faith, share time fairly, follow meeting rules, protect minority viewpoints, and accept democratically adopted decisions while preserving the right to principled dissent. Do not disrupt meetings, dominate discussions, or use factional pressure, ideological purity tests, or personal attacks.
Nonviolence and Safety: The party is committed to peaceful democratic change. Threats, physical intimidation, incitement to unlawful violence, and unsafe conduct are prohibited. Weapons are not permitted at party meetings or events unless required by law or expressly authorized for a lawful safety purpose.
Anti-Authoritarian Commitment: We rebuke authoritarian governments and movements, including those that call themselves “communist.” The party rejects cults of personality, suppression of dissent, glorification of dictators, political violence, and demands for unquestioning obedience.
Honesty, Funds, and Resources: Members shall represent facts accurately, avoid knowingly spreading misinformation, disclose conflicts of interest, and use party funds, records, logos, mailing lists, and online platforms only for authorized purposes. Financial records, major decisions, and meeting minutes should be documented and reasonably available to members.
Privacy and Confidentiality: Protect membership lists, contact information, private discussions marked confidential, and sensitive personal disclosures. Do not dox, expose, or weaponize private information.
Accessibility and Care: Make reasonable efforts to hold accessible meetings, provide readable materials, welcome accommodations, and create spaces where disabled people, elders, children, vulnerable adults, and new participants are treated with appropriate care and boundaries. Credible concerns about abuse, neglect, or exploitation must be reported to designated party officers and, when legally required, to public authorities.
Public and Online Conduct: When speaking publicly or online, distinguish personal views from official party positions unless authorized to speak for the party. Do not use party spaces for harassment, personal profit, scams, or unlawful activity. Participants should not attend events impaired to the point that they disrupt proceedings or create safety concerns.
Concerns, Due Process, and Discipline: Concerns may be reported without retaliation. Allegations should be reviewed fairly and impartially, with notice to the person accused and an opportunity to respond. Responses may include informal resolution, mediation, restorative practices, warning, suspension, removal from leadership, or expulsion by vote, depending on severity. A disciplined member may appeal under procedures adopted by the party.
Compliance and Review: The party will comply with applicable law while pursuing lawful social and political change. These standards should be reviewed periodically and acknowledged by members.
